Advanced wavetable synthesizer

Serum is an advanced wavetable synthesizer by Xfer Records. The audio program delivers a high-quality sound, visual, and creative workflow-oriented interface to make creating and altering sounds fun instead of tedious. It also has the capability to create, import, edit, morph wavetables and manipulate these on playback in real-time. Thanks to its built-in Wavetable editor, you can create your wavetables however you want.

Is Serum the best synth?

Unlike other types of synthesizers that are based on simple sine, triangle, and saw waves, this particular audio tool creates sounds using digital waveforms otherwise known as wavetables. This system allows you to choose from thousands of unique wavetable combinations, allowing you to create your unique sound. If you’re new to creating wavetables, you can test the full version of this solution for 3 days for free

For the experienced producer and musician, you will find that its sound engine delivers crisp sounds. It’s all thanks to its 4 separate oscillators namely, 2 main oscillators, 1 flexible noise generator, and 1 dirty sub-oscillator. Both main oscillators focus on Virtual Sound Technology or VST. The noise and sub-oscillators are for to create polished sounds more efficiently. For example, the sub-oscillator can be directed to the output section to build a bass patch inside the program.

The full version of Serum comes with 150 different wavetable shapes. However, by veteran composers’ standards, it not really satisfying but still, it is substantial enough to create great music. Through its external audio function and the editor, you can build unique-sounding wavetables. There will be a large number of customization tools displayed in an intuitive and easy-to-use interface. Beginners can immediately begin familiarizing themselves and experimenting with the different tools. The wavetables are organized into different categories: analog, spectral, and vowel.

Powerful wavetable synthesizer

There’s a lot more to cover about Xfer's Serum as it offers more features that cover different aspects of making music. Overall, the immediate experience of using Serum is that it packs a lot of features without being overly complicated. Whether you’re just starting in the music industry or you’re looking for a new wavetable program, Serum is the program for you.
